Happy Mind Happy Life

Hi and welcome to Drawn to DIY!

Last week, I posted a printable that was made using a spotter brush.

Today, I'm sharing a quote using a favorite of many letterers—the Tombow dual brush pen.

This set of Tombow dual brush pens is actually one of the first sets I purchased when I started learning brush lettering. This is great for beginners because the ink comes with the pen already and the colors come out consistent, unlike using watercolor and water with a regular brush. These pens are more convenient and easier to handle so I usually take these along with the Zigs when traveling.

In this printable, I used both tips of the dual brush pen. On one end, there is a brush which is great for your thick downstrokes. On the other end, you'll find a fine tip marker which you can use for detailing and regular lettering. As you might have noticed, the words "happy" were lettered using the brush tip, and the words, "mind" and "life" were written using the fine tip.

I'll share some more printables using the Tombows in the next weeks but for now, how do you like it so far? Do you have any quotes you'd like lettered? Share them below.

Happy Mind Happy Life

I've recently been fascinated with the study of positive psychology and how it has exploded in the past two decades. We now know more than ever about what makes us happy and little by little, how to harness this knowledge for practical applications.

One of the things scientists have found out is there is a connection between positive thoughts and healthy minds and bodies. There have been reports of lowered risks of diseases, longer life spans, and even improved sleep quality. Here are other findings I'd like to share with you:

  • We are happier when we are helping others
  • Mindfulness is a gateway to happiness
  • Lasting happiness is born of purpose

It sounds quite simple actually—happy mind, happy life—but as we all know, it becomes difficult when faced with factors such as work, stress, money, expectations, and decisions.

Check out this article for suggested simple habits that promote happiness

If you'd like to know more, read this, this, and this, and you can also watch this Ted talk (watched over 3.7 million times!) by Martin Seligman, the founder of positive psychology.

See you again on Thursday for a DIY for plant-lovers!
